Gaming Podcast 204: River City Barf

This week we’re covering a few stories fresh in 2011 or at least our reactions are fresh! We’re hitting up some community comments, as the usual, and doing a flash back of River City Ransom, last covered in episode 4–don’t go find the old one, listen to the new one (we only had 3 listeners back then!). The stories of the week:

This weeks question of the week: What game did or do you love that no one else seems to have ever heard of?

  1. @No 3-D Gaming for Young Players:
    Lol! In one of the previous episode comments I mentioned there is that in order to take full advantage of the high resolution, you’d need to hold it at less than 20 cm from your eyes, putting some serious strain on them.
    I liked how you underlined the fact that they’re removing a good chunk of their market 🙂

    @FOX Scares Family with Kinect Sex Game:
    Meh … I think they [FOX] are just trying to raise their ratings …

    🙂 “the hand goes into the body” … what are you trying to say there?
    As for sex games, well, they were on the C64, on NES and so on. It was bound that one would be developed for the XBox360 and Kinect combo.
    I’m waiting for the 3DS one 😛

    @Apple Expects iPad Explosion in 2011:
    Dunno. My girlfriend’s sister got one, and it only supported the opinion “it’s just a bigger iPod”. It didn’t impress me: same apps (well, some are literally for iPod, not for iPad), but a bit better hardware.
    I still don’t see the point for them.
    Yes, I am anti-Apple 🙂

    @PS3 Rootkey Exposed By Hacker:
    Oh man 🙂 , that news made my day. Basically you can now make apps for the PS3 that can be labeled as genuine. XBox pirating? Screw that! Welcome PS3 pirating 🙂

    What if this is a “marketing” scheme from Sony? I mean if you get the console as open as a PC, people might actually start to buy them.

    @Question of the week:
    Hmm, quite some of them:
    – Codename: Outbreak (aka Project Venom), made by GSC from Ukraine. Very good game mechanics, although a corny story. Some of the game mechanics were kept also in STALKER.
    – Irongrip: Warlord, from ISOTX. A nice surprise, merging FPS and RTS. And the feeling that you’re bound to be defeated? Very nice.
    – C&C Renegade: nice story and allowed a variety of ways to play the game. I remember playing one of the missions using only the silenced pistol. Very cool.

    As I said before, ending with the soundtrack for a NES game is always cool 🙂

    I think this is just Nintendo being extra careful, not wanting any lawsuits or anything. I don’t think it will really have much effect on it’s sales. But I wouldn’t really care if it did anyway, I just like the software lineup it’s got!

    @Apple predicts iPad explosion
    I’m with Herr Alien here. Just an over-sized iPod touch. Unless the iPad 2 has some major upgrades and awesome new features, not to mention a price drop, then I don’t think it’ll be as successful as the iPhone or iPod.

    @QOTW
    I don’t really have any unknown games I don’t think… But the closest thing to it? Hmmm, well some games I have that didn’t sell well, like Freespace 2 for PC, Little Kings Story for Wii and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts for 360. Oh and a game that I know you Americans won’t have heard of – Ricky Ponting International Cricket 2005!!! Best cricket game for its time!

  7. I think third party developers would be more annoyed and upset at Sony. People can hack Steam games all they like, but they can’t play online with them. Sony put all their eggs in the hardware basket, and now they’re paying the price.
